Welcome to the last part of the Planets in Astrology series. We saved the best for last. Today, we're going to put one of the most feared planets in astrology, the dwarf planet Pluto under the microscope.

Pluto was discovered last of all the planets in the Solar System. IT was discovered in 1930, to be exact. Historically, this is the period when people were experimenting with nuclear power for the first time and it also aligns with the rise of the dictatorships and the peak of the horrors of the twentieth century.

The story of how Pluto got its name is very interesting. An eleven-year-old girl gave this dwarf planet the name Pluto, after the Roman equivalent of Hades, the god of the underworld. This dwarf planet rules the sign of Scorpio and it is in fall in Taurus in astrology. It hasn't been established yet in which sign Pluto is exalted and in fall. Pluto rules the eighth house in the natural chart, which was formerly ruled by Mars. Pluto represents the higher octave of Mars.

Legend has it that Pluto is the worst planet in astrology. Pluto has a bad reputation because of its intensity and destructive power. There is another reason it is feared. Pluto asks you to let go of the things and beliefs that don't serve you anymore. But if you think about it, Pluto in astrology wants to teach you that every ending is a new beginning and makes place for something new and hopefully better. You have to learn first how to handle Pluto with the right amount of care, but once you mastered the tasks it asks you to do, Pluto will become your inner powerhouse.

Pluto in Astrology

The matters associated with this planet aren't for the faint-hearted. Pluto rules transformations of all kinds, both on a physical and mental level. It governs atomic energy where one kind of matter is transformed into another. It is associated with birth, death, and rebirth in astrology. Pluto governs near-death experiences.

This process is always painful. You won't be the same person after you experience a Plutonian event. These often include severe trauma, death or (sexual) violence. On the negative end, Pluto triggers the most violent events among all planetary energies and because of its intensity, it can cause great damages and destruction.

But in the time of pain and suffering, you become more resistant and stronger - Pluto embodies the saying what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. It teaches you to appreciate the opportunity to be alive. This is, of course, easier said than done.

Plutonian events often induce a journey through what they call the dark night of the soul. But there is no other option left than to accept that dark and painful experiences are part of life, just like pleasant and soft ones. Our world is based on the duality of light and shadow.

Pluto's main role is to cleanse everything and make people rid of obsolete things, both on a personal level and at the level of society. The old wrongs must be eliminated before something new and more functional can be born. It's Pluto's job to take care of what is left behind. Pluto recycles and turns the old and dead into fresh and full of life.

Being so far away from the Sun, there is no wonder that this planet is associated with things hidden. Pluto rules everything under the surface. It governs the realm of the unconscious, psychologists and surgeons who dive their scalpels under the skin. On the dark side, Pluto governs the underworld and crime in astrology. Pluto is very deep and intense, it doesn't stop until it gets what it wants. Investigation and research are some other matters Plutonians are instinctively good at. Pluto is a secretive and hidden planet in astrology.

Power and obsession are some more keywords related to this dark planet. It can be revengeful and full of hate which can turn into extremely violent behavior. The key is in submission here, accepting that there are some things out of your control and the biggest disasters cause the biggest transformation. Pluto in your natal chart shows the highest you can ascend and the lowest you can descend, and the choice is absolutely yours. Don't ever abuse your free will. If used properly, Pluto helps you to integrate your dark side into your personality and gain wisdom.

Pluto in the Natal Chart

Pluto is the slowest moving among all planets with its orbit if approximately 250 years. It stays in each sign of the Zodiac for several years and it belongs to the transgenerational planets. Pluto spends the most time in Taurus, around 30 years and the less in Scorpio, 12 years. The effect of Pluto in signs isn't very expressed on a personal level, it affects whole generations and their lifestyles. During the average human lifetime, Pluto transits four-five signs only.

Pluto's position by houses is very important, just like the aspects it makes to personal points of the birth chart. Pluto in the natal chart shows where you seek power and where you can experience intense transformation.

If it makes an aspect to your Sun or Moon, takes place near the ascendant or Midheaven you probably have many Plutonian traits. The beset way to deal with this planet is to embrace change  and willingly let go, knowing that there will arise something better.

We all have Pluto somewhere in the natal chart and we all have to face our dark side from time to time. The negative expression is through jealousy, revenge, manipulation, an obsession that destroys in the long term both the native and the native's environment. But you can choose to use the deep insight and intensity of Pluto constructively, discover the dark side of yourself and heal the scars under the surface, both yours and the scars of those around you.
